07/25 - MTV.com - Newsbit

Scott Weiland appeared in a Burbank, California, court on Friday (July 25) to request his case be diverted to a drug court program, where his possession charges could be dismissed upon completion of the program. Eligibility is typically based on possession for personal use, not for sale, among other factors. The Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver singer will next appear in a Pasadena court on August 15 to find out if he qualifies.

07/25 - KERRANG!.com - Velvet Revolver release EP in October.

Velvet Revolver have confirmed that they’ll release their debut EP/DVD in mid-October.
This will feature one new studio track, ‘Slither’, plus the follwing covers which they recorded live in June: ‘Bodies’ (Sex Pistols), ‘Negative Creep’ (Nirvana), ‘It’s So Easy’ (Guns N’ Roses) and ‘Sex Type Thing’ (Stone Temple Pilots). The band's song 'Set Me Free’, which featured on ‘The Hulk’ soundtrack, will also be included.

07/24 - Billboard.com - Velvet Revolver Hits The Studio.

The first release from Velvet Revolver, featuring Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, David Kushner of Suicidal Tendencies and former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, will be a combination EP/DVD culled from the band's recent surprise gig at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Although details are still being nailed down, the as-yet-untitled EP will most likely contain the majority of the six-song El Rey set, a studio version of an original song played that night and possibly another new, unheard studio track. The DVD will center around live footage taken from the gig. As first tipped here this week, both will be issued Oct. 13 on Immortal Records.

Velvet Revolver booked the June 19 gig just days beforehand and announced the free show only a day prior. The gig saw the band perform the Sex Pistols' "Bodies," GNR's "It's So Easy," STP's "Sex-Type Thing," Nirvana's "Negative Creep" and a pair of originals, "Slither" and "Set Me Free," the latter of which was recently released on "The Hulk" soundtrack.

The act is currently recording the studio version of "Slither" for the EP with producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Kiss). It's part of a process in which the band is testing the waters with producers they are interested in working with, according to a spokesperson.

07/22 - Billboard.com - Billboard Bits: Velvet Revolver.

Velvet Revolver, the new band featuring Guns N' Roses vets Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, David Kushner of Suicidal Tendencies and former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, will likely release an EP in the coming months via Immortal Records. The label has inked a new deal with RED Distribution; Immortal was previously distributed by Epic and Virgin.

To date, Velvet Revolver's lone available track is "Set Me Free," which was included on Decca's soundtrack to "The Hulk." The cut is No. 20 this week on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks airplay chart.

Velvet Revolver joins the hard rock acts No One and Switched on Immortal's roster. The label expects to release a soundtrack album for the film "Blood Money" featuring Busta Rhymes and Xzibit by the end of the year.

07/18 - MTV.com - For The Record.

For the second time in a week, Scott Weiland's case has been continued. Because he was still in rehab, the Stone Temple Pilots/ Velvet Revolver singer postponed his court date on July 11 until Friday (July 18). Now Weiland won't be due in a Burbank, California, court to address drug charges until July 25, according to a court clerk. Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver are meeting with producer Bob Ezrin to have him produce their moody and grooving track "Slither," which they previewed at their live debut in Los Angeles last month. The band plans to hit the studio with Ezrin on July 28.

07/17 - New York Post - SCOTT WEILAND Sipping Non-Alcoholic Beer At South Beach Celebration.

The New York Post is reporting that "it was a steamy night of celebration at Opium Garden's three-year anniversary in South Beach. Rockers Scott Weiland and Duff McKagan, singer and bassist in Axl Rose-free GUNS N' ROSES offshoot VELVET REVOLVER, introduced a sultry swimwear show by designer Susan Holmes, who happens to be McKagan's [wife]. The festivities got starlet Eliza Dushku so fired up that she stripped to her skivvies and performed a lascivious lap dance for model Kylie Bax. In the VIP lounge, hoops legend Charles Barkley took off his shirt before jumping behind the bar to serve drinks. Weiland, fresh from rehab, drank nothing but O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer."

07/xx - Entertainment Weekly

Thank ''The Hulk'' for giving a gamma-powered boost to new supergroup Velvet Revolver. Their single ''Set Me Free'' from the movie's soundtrack is a bonafide rock radio hit. The band -- made up of former Guns 'N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum, plus Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland -- is planning a live EP, a VH1 special, and a studio album. Les Paul-wielding guitarist Slash tells EW.com what to expect -- and why there will never be a Guns 'N Roses reunion.

THE EP Audaciously, Velvet Revolver is planning an October release of its first live performance, a six-song romp recorded last month at Los Angeles' El Rey Theater. ''It's just to tide people over -- and tide ourselves over -- until the album comes out,'' explains Slash. ''The show sounds pretty good for a raw, rock 'n roll representation of what we're about, with mistakes and all.'' In addition to ''Set Me Free,'' the set included covers of the Sex Pistols' ''Bodies'' and Nirvana's ''Negative Creep'' ? plus, STP's ''Sex Type Thing'' and G N' R's ''It's So Easy.'' The EP will also include a studio version of the new song ''Slither,'' which is said to sound like STP. Slash claims that plans for the quick release have nothing to do with Weiland's pending substance abuse charges, which could be resolved in the coming months. ''I don't think he'll go to jail. He's doing great.''

THE VH1 SPECIAL A September episode of new VH1 series ''Inside Out'' will chronicle the unlikely genesis of Velvet Revolver. A VH1 crew has been following the band since last year, when it was known as The Project, and prospective singers included metal relics like Skid Row's Sebastian Bach. Back then, few were taking the idea of the group seriously. ''Nobody had faith in this thing,'' says Slash. ''The people around us were, like, it's never going to happen.... I don't know if the show will give a hundred percent taste of what we were going through, but it will give you an idea.''

THE ALBUM No release date is set for the band's debut CD, but Slash jokes that it should be ready before Axl Rose's eternally delayed ''Chinese Democracy.'' Before Weiland joined in May, the group had already written nearly 60 songs. Currently, the singer is busy adding lyrics and melodies to some of those, even as he and the band start new ones from scratch. ''When we actually go in to record, all we need to do is pick the songs,'' Slash says.

A GUNS REUNION? NO WAY Axl Rose's decision to form a new version of Guns -- with such ringers as guitarist Buckethead and former Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson -- ruined chances for a reunion. 'There will never come a time when we all get together and play under the name Guns 'N Roses because it's too f---ing tainted,'' says Slash. ''If he'd done the solo thing, then we could have gotten together and jammed for one show. Now it's like, over with. He screwed that up.'' But you can still expect to hear Slash's guitar lines screaming over some G 'N R classics. ''We're not gonna go and do every big Guns 'N Roses hit,'' says Slash about a future Velvet Revolver tour. ''But we have no problem with our history as long as it's not pushing Scott into something he's not into.''
