K:HI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
"I'm painting the outside of the house and getting some projects done while I'm home. A bunch of little things like fixing the stair on the back gate"
K: WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING HOME REPAIRS?
"Not having to pay someone else to do it"
K: WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TOOL?
"My Black & Decker drill and my Leatherman. You can build or fit almost anything with those two tools"
K: DIDN'T YOU USED TO WORK IN CONSTRUCTION?
"Yeah, doing home repairs. And I've had various art department jobs, building sets for movie and music videos. I worked on a Lit video and a bunch of rap videos, like the Brandy & Monica one"
K: WHEN YOU WERE WORKING FOR THE CONTRACTOR, DID YOU WORK AMONG OTHER STRUGGLING ROCK 'N' ROLLERS?
"Yeah, my friend Scott Shriner who plays bass in Weezer, and guys from Lifter, who used to be on Interscope. There's this revolving door of guys, at the tail-end of a career or at the in-between stage. I did cartage, too, where you pick up people's gear and deliver it"
K: ARE YOUR VELVET REVOLVER BANDMATES AS HANDY AS YOU ARE WITH TOOLS?
"Matt [Sorum, drums] is a really insane landscaper. He'll redesign a whole yard, and get in there and plant everything himself. He'll tell you 10 different kinds of palms. I think Duff used to do construction, too. He's had me work on some projects before. When he had money and I didn't, he was trying to help me out. He'd be like, "Hey, let's paint my garage"
K: WHAT IS A VELVET REVOLVER, AND CAN YOU BUILD ONE?
"Me, Duff and Matt could build one. I'm not sure about Slash or Scott. I don't know what it is. It's really just two words that five guys could agree on. Slash came up with Revolver. Then we found out that there were other bands called Revolver. Then Scott came up with Dead Velvet Revolver. Finally we decided on Velvet Revolver.
K: WHAT IS YOUR DREAM PROJECT?
"I think I'd be into designing a house"
K: ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH THOSE HOME FIX-IT SHOWS?
"Yeah. They pile up on the TiVo. 'Extreme Makeover - Home Edition' is my favourite. I love learning how to do stuff and it's great to see a show where they're really helping people. I mean, you're crying at the end of every episode cos it's so cool the way they help these people"
