Band Info: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to the questions I most frequently find in my email inbox. If you think there should be more answers here, send in your questions!

Is that Scott's wife Mary in the 'Fall To Pieces' video?

Yes, Mary 'plays' Scott's wife also in the video. According to Scott, there was talk of having actress Keira Knightley play Mary, but he wanted Mary instead.

Why doesn't my 'Contraband' cd play on my computer?

RCA Records chose to 'copy-protect' the disc so people won't copy discs, make mp3s or load the songs to their iPods. Now we -as fans- know that we weren't planning to do anything illegal. We didn't purchase the real deal for nothing. And the criminal minded amongst us don't bother with copying and ripping cd's cause it's already conveniently done for them by so-called 'ripping crews' that spread MP3's all over the internet.

But to get to the point: You purchased the disc. How do you get it to play on your pc?

The problem is the security software on the disc. All you have to do is (1) disable the 'Autorun' function on your cdrom drive before you put the disc on or (2) remove the software the cd tried to install the first time you put the disc in the computer (Windows XP 'System Restore' works wonders), and then disable the auto-run feature associated with the drive. Now the disc should play like a normal cd.

How to disable this autorun feature in Windows? Read this step-by-step guide!

Thanks to Steve Gaillot for informing me about this.

Where can I get VR mechandise? / I want to have a t-shirt!

Check out the official online store through the link below or visit Rockabilia or JSR Direct. They carry official merch. Watch out for fake t-shirts that are all over eBay!

Why is there a F.A.Q. page?

I put this Frequently Asked Questions page up on the site because I receive a lot of emails on a daily basis that ask the same questions. I collected the most popular questions on this page, and added a few of my own that I thought would be informative and suitable for this page. Sometimes I get so many emails that I am not able to respond to them all. My apologies for that. I hope that this FAQ page can help!

Where does the name 'Velvet Revolver' come from?

Originally, Slash came up with the name 'Revolver' after watching a movie where the word 'Revolution' came on the screen. Then 'Revolver' came to his mind, and he thought it was pretty cool, being the title of a great Beatles record. Slash also thought the word had some significance with the band members all coming from different bands, they all had a 'revolving thing' going.

Slash wrote it down on a piece of paper, then Scott added some words, making 'Black Velvet Revolver'. The whole band thought this was a cool name, but that it sounded very 'Stone Temple Pilots'-esque. So they cut off the 'Black' and kept 'Velvet Revolver'.

Is there an official VR Fanclub?

No, there is no official VR Fanclub yet. There are several initiatives to get fan collectives going, but your best bet would be the Streetwise team they set up for the band. This organization seems to have official backup from the label. Of course you can also join the Fans United Listing.

Who is 'Yoko'?

Is he a band member? An impostor or a website hacker? I don't know. So far he seems to be our trusty VR secret-informer on the Official Website. He's the one who keeps us all updated and sends out the official newsletters.

Is that Scott singing on this song 'Pleasin'' that I downloaded? And why is it not on your site?

The song you downloaded was put on the internet by Grayson Manor singer Brad Cox (visit his website here), who was one of the many singers who auditioned for the band when they were still known as 'the Project'. So it's not Scott singing, nor is it Velvet Revolver. That's also why it's not included in the lyrics & song info section.

What other 'fake' VR tracks are floating on the internet?

There are a couple of tracks that turned up on the internet, labeled as being Velvet Revolver. Some song titles include: 'Vengeful God', '27', 'Dead Time', 'Embrace' and 'Faithful'. The artist's name for the song '27' is by Breaking Point off 'The Scorpion King' soundtrack. Unfortunaly, the other songs no one really knows who the other bands they are, but they are certainly not Velvet Revolver.

Can you give me VIP / backstage passes / tickets for VR's show in <fill in city>, please?

No, unfortunately I can't. I'm just a fan running a site about my favorite band and I don't have access to any of those privileges.

I need to know when the tickets for <fill in show> go on sale, please let me know. I will die if I don't get in!

All information that I know on upcoming shows and their ticket sale dates, is posted on the Concert Chronology page. I update that page several times a day with new information if and when it becomes available. There's nothing more I can tell you, than what's on the page. Currently I am receiving so many requests that I am not able to respond to them all.

How long before the questions and answers show up on other sites?

I honestly don't know. There are so many sites out there these days who just take content or even a complete site layout from other places and don't give credit where it's due. You can usually weed out the copying sites by their news pages: you'll see a lot of news where the source has not been reported, or is shrouded in a cloud of mystery (ie. 'this was posted somewhere on the net', 'we heard that', etc.). When I read news, I always wonder where it's from. That's also why I include source links in my news posts whenever they are available.
