2007: The new year starts off rocking Henson (former A&M) Studios in Hollywood, where the band is recording tracks for their next album with producer Brendan O'Brien.
2006: The band's "year off" is dotted with surprise appearances by the band members at various events, concerts and award shows. Recording the new album gets off to a rocky start. (Rumoured) producers like Pharrell Williams and Lenny Kravitz do not work out, and writing and rehearsing in the studio do not go as planned. Before calling in Rick Rubin to work on the new album, the band line up a string of West-Coast tour dates. It will take the arrival of Brendan O'Brien in the VR camp in December to spark a fruitful writing and recording process for the band's next album.
2005: The band continues touring 'Contraband', hitting the U.S. and Europe twice and making sidesteps to Japan and Australia. 'Dirty Little Thing' is the fourth radio single. The band also record a video for this song and the soundtrack rocker 'Come On, Come In', which is the band's 5th radio single. Other noted events are their performance at the Grammy Awards in February and the Live8 Charity Concert in July. At the end of the year, speculation about an upcoming concept album grow.
2004: VR tour the U.S. before the release of their debut album 'Contraband' on June 8th. 'Slither' and 'Fall To Pieces' are the band's second and third radio singles. The extensive tour takes the band through Europe in the summer and the U.S. again in the fall/winter.
2003: Auditions for a singer continue until May, when the band works with Scott Weiland on 'Set Me Free' for the Hulk Soundtrack and the Pink Floyd cover 'Money' for the 'Italian Job' movie. 'Set Me Free' is released as a radio single. The video for the song has movie fragments from the Hulk as well as live footage of the band from their first live show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. The band start recording songs for their debut album in the fall.
2002: Slash, Duff and Matt work together for a one-off charity concert. They play with Buckcherry's Josh Todd and Keith Nelson. The collaboration works so well that they decide to jam some more together. Eventually Josh and Keith leave, and the rest of the band including guitarist Dave Kushner start doing auditions for a new singer.
