Chronology:

  2006:

December 18: Scott performed the classic 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno with a band consisting of Douglas Grean on guitar, Frank Reina on drums and musicians on grand piano, upright bass, horn, cello and violins.

December 11: The band enters the studio to start recording 'Libertad' with producer Brendan O' Brien.

December 10: Blabbermouth reports that Slash showed up to perform the Rolling Stones song "Salt Of The Earth" with Jet during the band's semi-secret, partially acoustic show at the small Spaceland club in Los Angeles on Sunday night (December 10), according to Launch Radio Networks. Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones also climbed onstage at several points throughout the evening. The gig ended with Jet and all their guests jamming on the Faces' "Ooh La La".

December: Slowly, media outlets in South America are announcing more and more tour dates for Velvet Revolver on their continent. It looks like VR will make their first visit to LatinoAmerica in April 2007.

December 3: From VR's official myspace blog: "We've been writing songs for a few months now, and we've been in pre-production with the great Brendan O'Brien hashing out the tunes for the past few weeks. We'll be going into the recording studio next Monday the 11th to start recording the new album, with Brendan producing. As you may know, Brendan has done a lot of amazing records, including ALL of the STP albums, so expect nothing short of fantabulous."

December 3: Scott Weiland has launched Softdrive Records. Softdrive's first signing are the Actual, whose debut album "In Stitches" is due early next year, and country singer/songwriter Tommy Joe Wilson, who Weiland discovered in a Nashville bar. In addition to co-producing the Actual's album, Weiland will release his second solo album on Softdrive in late 2007 or early 2008.

November 17: Matt posted another message on his blog:

 We are planning to record
Right up to Christmas and then finish up just after the New Year.
 Making plans for touring
In the spring.
I know it has takin a little while but Its going ROCK.

Can't wait to get back out on the road with all you great Fans.

Matt

October: On Sunday October 1, Scott and his solo band and crew holed up at Scott's Lavish Studios in Los Angeles to shoot a video for 'Happy', a song Scott co-wrote with Pharell Williams for his second solo album. 'Happy' will probably the lead single for Scott's upcoming album and he will shoot more footage in the near future. MJI Interactive reports that Slash is among the musicians appearing in TV ads for a new campaign partnering First Act guitars and Volkswagen cars. On Saturday, October 14th, 2006, The Canyon Club, in conjunction with the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station, is hosting a concert fundraiser for deputy Jim Mulay, who was critically injured, while on duty, during the attempted apprehension of an armed bank robbery suspect on August 28th, 2006, in the city of Malibu.

Artists appearing at the benefit concert include Velvet Revolver, Rhino Bucket, Starf@ckers All Star Band incl. Terry Nunn, C.C. Deville, Dilana and surprise guest.

September 8: Scott performed a free show with Douglas Grean at Legends of Notre Dame in Indiana. The set list was: Barbarella, The Man I Didn't Know, Killing Me Sweetly, Desert Skies, Wish You Were Here, Interstate Love Song and Beautiful Day. It was the first time Scott performed his new solo songs 'Killing Me Sweetly' and 'Beautiful Day' live. It was also the first time he covered the Marshall Tucker Band cover 'Desert Skies'.

August 12: Matt says the band will be jamming and writing for the new record until the start of October, and will then go into the studio to record. He also explains that the band didn't want to play any new songs on the past couple of tour dates because they want the new songs to be the best that they can be before playing them:

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to say sorry for not being on The Sorum Forum in awhile.
Went out on the road for a few shows.
We have been working on writing the Album most of the summer and needed to get out.
It was fun, short but enough to inspire us to get the live feel again.
We had been working in my studio but are now
In a live rehearsal space.
Coming up with some great jams.
I am sorry we didn't play any new material on the 5 dates that we did play.
The Band wants the new stuff to be the best it can be before we let it out.
Anyway plan on writing all of Sept and part of October then in the studio.
That is the plan, so if it takes a little longer trust me it will be worth the wait.
This album is going to Rock.
Thank you all for your patience!!!!

Matt

June : VR lined up a couple of West Coast concerts for the summer, after recording plans and studio time are not as fruitful as they'd hoped for. Rumours have been going on about Lenny Kravitz and Pharrell Williams working with the band, but none of this has sparked or even been tried. Next in line is Rick Rubin, who is supposed to work with the band after their summer tour. Matt posts on his blog:

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been on the Forum lately.
Have been hard at work on the new VR
Stuff.
We have been working 5 days a week for the last month. And have about 10 songs worked up.
Going to work in my studio for another couple of weeks.
Then start rehearsing
For our mini tour of the west coast.
Then back in the studio to complete the album.
Hope some of you have been listening to Camp Freddy radio.
I have been doing it the last month or so.
Might be on this Saturday not sure yet.
But will keep you informed.
Thanks for all the postings and I will get back to you all soon.

Love,
Matt

May 14: Matt and Slash hosted Camp Freddy Radio last night on Indie 103. They talked about the MAP Fund benefit they played on Friday, as well as a soundtrack song VR recorded for the movie 'Monster House'. The soundtrack for that movie will probably be released on July 18. In addition, the guys pretty much shot down all rumours we heard about Slash and VR over the last couple of months.

April 25: Duff and Scott appeared as guest judges on an episode of Nashville Star, airing live from the Acuff Theater in Nashville, TN. Duff recently told Rolling Stone that it's kind of a dream come true for him to tour with Alice in Chains and he recently played with them in LA for 'Man in a Box'. Duff will be joining the band for selected gigs, including England's Donington festival.

April 5: Pharrell confirmed to Billboard that he is working with Velvet Revolver but didn't specify any details. He is also working with Scott Weiland on a song titled "Happy," which may appear on Weiland's second solo album.

March 13: According to a posting by Matt Sorum on his Sorum Forum, VR are putting their final touches on a DVD release. He speaks of a show the band recorded in Texas at the start of the 'Contraband' tour. This is most likely the show from June 18, 2004 in Houston, TX, which was broadcast on HDNET earlier this year. In May 2005, Matt also spoke out about this DVD production: "We're working on it right now," he said. "We're cutting it up. Shot that down in Houston early on, and we did a lot of footage backstage and stuff, so it should be real interesting. We're gonna intercut a lot of backstage footage with a lot of stuff in our travels, you know, cross-country, which will be cool to kind of end the tour up with."

March 11: According to Blabbermouth, Duff announced yesterday that VR will head into the studio on April 10 to start recording their new album. Duff was in Atlantic City yesterday, where he performed with Alice In Chains at the VH1 Decades Rock Live show honoring Heart.

March 1: In the last week of February, some internet rumours about Slash leaving Velvet Revolver got blown way out of proportion on line. This site tried to stay on the sideline, ignoring the postings made by some people with malicious intent towards Slash and the band. Eventually, though, we decided to post a statement from the band's management, saying that no-one was leaving the band.

February 22: Matt has been writing songs with Duff for the next VR record, due out later this year. Matt suggested he would like the new VR album to be more 'danceable', and said he would like to try something different and work with someone like Pharrell Williams. Also, Matt is planning to record a second solo album and he announced that Scott Weiland has joined the permanent line-up of Camp Freddy.

February 6: Matt is currently recording in his studio with a new project called Circus Diablo, featuring Billy Morrison, Billy Duffy and Ricky Warwick. Matt is handling the drums and co-producing the recordings. According to a statement on Ricky Warwick's website, the group has no record label or big plans, they just want to be creative and have fun.

February 2: After three shows around the New Year, it's starting to get quiet around the band. According to MTV, Scott has inked a publishing deal with Scribner for his memoirs, which will include stories about his rise to rock stardom in STP, his battles with drugs, and his life now that he's sober.

January 1: The band start this year rocking with a performance at the Startland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey.
