Reviews (79) [ send in your own review/pictures of the Dublin show ]

Thanks to Stephen Doyle: The show was amazing! They're a loud band so since it was indoors the sound could go nowhere (the louder the better!!). I also remember that at the start of the show when the crew were setting up, the guy in charge, who was also in control of sound-check, had a full blown mullet and kept posing for photos on stage instead of doing his work.

It put him in a great mood so he cranked the show up to 11. What pissed me off though was that I was in the wheelchair section, which was right at the back!!

I'm going to see them in march in the Ambassador Theatre, which only holds 1000 to 2000 and as far as I know the wheelchair section is up the front, but with the size of the place, I'll be a lot closer (so will everyone else - HA HA!!)

Thanks to Paddy: Savage gig, Scott is such an excellent frontman and the band is such a tight unit. Hopefully they can pursue their own identity as Velvet Revolver with their next album cos I like their songs better than GNR and STP. For anyone who thought it was too loud, you can go to The Point in June. Kris Kristoffensen is there (no dis to Kris or anything but he is just a bit quieter). Velvet Revolver- Rock N ROLL at its best!

Thanks to Ivan: Their Dublin concert was my first ever concert and it was amazing. I was so close to the stage. There was a part were the people in front jumped up and I couldn't see and when they calmed down some sort of liquid landed on me and the closest band member to me was Slash and if you read this Slash could you please email me and tell me what it was the liquid I mean if it was you who did I'd like to find out it happened twice my email address is ivgl@oceanfree.com I still had a deadly night come back to Dublin again, it would be deadly. Velvet Revolver is the best band ever full stop rock and fucking roll.

Thanks to Colm Considine: It was awesome. Slash was great, Scott's vocals were a bit rusty. They did a few guns songs such as It's So Easy and Mr. Brownstone. Slash was smokin his fags even though the new law in Ireland is that you can't smoke in public places but who cares. Overall it was awesome.

Thanks to Mark: Wow what a show, just back and it rocked!!! Played pretty much everything from the album as well as a few GNR classics. Scott was on fire, Slash and Duff were awesome. Well done lads, come back soon? Maybe in the summer I heard?

Thanks to Lino: Velvet Revolver fuckin rocked at that show. Slash, Duff and Dave rocked the show all night...... please please please come back to Ireland.

Thanks to Stephen Lyness: The show that Velvet Revolver pull off was unreal. Dave and Slash were brillant on guitar. There will never be a show like that again. Duff was class on the bass.

Velvet Revolver should come back to Ireland again. But they should have a better support band.

Thanks to John Bowes: What can I say that hasn't been already said about the concert. Fucking awesome. Slash is God. Velvet Revolver for me has brought back the true meaning of rock. They kick ass. Thanx lads.

Thanks to Tra: What a shit cool concert. The boys rocked the place as only they know how. Guns N Roses will always live on and Axl will never and can't ever be forgotten but until him and the rest of the shit cool legends reunite Velvet Revolver will live on the rock and roll life and keep it alive and kicking. They are all my idols and one day they may have the pleasure of meeting me. It was the best experience ever. They looked better than ever.

Thanks to Danny Wexford: The show was the best I've ever seen. The sound was good if you didn't hear Slash's guitar you should have been shot. Big Machine was the best song or Mr Brownstone but have to say the mosh pit was the roughest I have ever been in. Datsuns are good but the guitarist couldn't get off the wah peddle for the solos. By the way Duff is the best bassists in the whole fkn world. Luv em.

Thanks to Brian McNamee from the Ulster Herald: Quiz Question: How many Wonders of the World still remain in tact? Answer? I really wouldn't have a clue but the sight of ex Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash kicking into another roaring guitar solo beats any crumbling pyramids or walls in my opinion! To say that I was in awe is a slight understatement when I encountered the ferocious rock sounds of Velvet Revolver at Dublin's Point Depot on Wednesday last. Velvet Revolver is somewhat of a Phoenix from the flames as three ex Guns 'n' Roses members, Slash, bass player Duff McKagen and drummer Matt Sorum join forces with Scott Weiland, ex front man of Stone Temple Pilots as well as rhythm guitarist Dave Kushner an old band mate of Duff McKagan's. This was to be a night of true rock and roll, bad attitudes, big egos, soaring guitar solos and riffs, you get the picture.

The night was opened quite admirably by Australian outfit The Datsuns, a set full of material from their first album originally titled, wait for it, The Datsuns! The Datsuns are quite noticeably influenced by Thin Lizzy, although most of the songs are short and snappy, they would do well to push three minutes from any one song. Highlights of an energetic set included MTV2 favourites MF from Hell and Harmonic Generator, surprisingly though the set did not contain their as yet biggest hit In Love. On the downside lead guitarist decided to use the Wah pedal for every song and it did become a tad repetitive, but I suppose I am allowed to criticise seeing as I'm the one supporting Velvet Revolver.

One of the most noticeable aspects of the night was the extreme range of the ages within the crowd, old Guns fans were rubbing shoulders with spotty teenagers and even behind me there was a mother with her 10-year-old son and I was later informed that she wanted to show her boy that there was life after Busted.

Then the moment of truth, Duff McKagen and Slash swagger upon to the stage evoking absolute pandemonium! It is quite something to watch childhood heroes that you have played air guitar to in your bedroom all those days ago play live. Of late I have seen Snow Patrol and Franz Ferdinand and bands of that calibre but these men are in a different class. Working through most of the tracks from the Contraband album they open with big hitter Sucker Train Blues which was promptly followed by Do it for the Kids , but was not until the likes of Set Me Free and the majestic Fall to Pieces that Scott Weiland shows his vocal class. Weiland is an interesting creature to watch, draped with scarves from head to toe and kamper than a Village People convention he runs around wielding a megaphone and moves not unlike Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler. In the end though, good as Weiland and Duff are it really is all about Slash, the intro to Superhuman is a definition of guitar tone to all guitarists out there. Upon his re-emergence for the first encore Slash realises that smoking is now banned indoors and he has been puffing like a train all night long, but in true rock and roll fashion he smokes on!

During an acoustic moment Slash and Weiland give their versions of You Got No Right and Guns 'n' Roses favourite Used To Love Her. Indeed they play versions of Guns classics Mr Brownstowne and It's So Easy , pity they couldn't wheel Axl out to sing those though as it was the one point where I thought Weiland fell short. As the night was nearing end Velvet Revolver appear for a second encore, the bass thumping Big Machine and first single Slither close the curtains upon an excellent show, we were even given a glimpse of that famous top hat, who knows when we might see that again? Something tells me it might not be around for as long as the pyramids though.

Thanks to Andrew and Anthony: At last we got to see Velvet Revolver in our home land. This was our second time as we traveled to Germany to see them previously. The gig was excellent and the packed Point Depot was rockin. The sound was a bit off, Slash's solos should have been louder but that obviously didn't prevent the band from performing a powerfull show.

I'm sending this review from a cafe in Sydney, we are gonna see Velvet Revolver in another country on a different side of the hemisphere. If that's not die hard support what is? So if anyone out there can get us to meet Slash and the lads, please let us know -"amcg92@hotmail.com". See ya in Brisbane.

Thanks to Karen: What an amazing gig! I waited 13 years for Duff, Slash, Matt to come back to Ireland after Slane '92 and it was worth every minute. Great songs, great sound, they gave out so much energy it was one of those nights you just don't want to end. To Velvet Revolver: thank you very, very, fuckin' much!! Can't wait for the next one!

Thanks to Spire: I must of paid over 600 to see Velvet Revolver in Manchester last year and thought it was fucking legend, but as soon as I heard they were coming to Ireland I would of paid any price to get tickets and I did, they played the best show I have ever seen, hopefully be at Oxygen or even return for another date cause they are the best band going and the album is excellent, the gig was packed and Mr Weiland and Slash had such a great impact on the crowd, as soon as I heard Matt breaking into You Could Be Mine I couldn't believe it but as you know he was acting the ballox, I thought that was funny, Duff was just cool as he always has been the in the band, but to my suprise was Dave on guitar!? I had been following what all ex-members of GN'R have been doing for the last three years and got really excited when I heard Slash, Duff and Matt were getting together to make a new band. But I was a little worried about the second guitarist, but I was worring over nothing due to his cool sounds from his six string and pedals, he is a fucking legend as well as the other lads and that's for class fucking class solo in 'Set Me Free', class but he will never take the place of Slash he is the ultimate guitar player and I've seen Velvet Revolver twice and as much as I have expected from all the lads they are the greatest thing since sliced bread!!!!!! Mmm I'm hungry!!!!

Thanks to Jeff 21: Fuckin brilliant show, when Matt started the intro to 'You Could Be Mine' then broke into 'Mr. Brownestone', wicked. I'm glad they didn't play big GnR songs like Paradise and Sweet Child as that would have been too much old Guns and less new Velvet Revolver. I didn't get there early enough so had to beg and plea to get into the pit but eventually did, 4 people away from the stage, blew me away. Scott is a brilliant frontman and people comparing him to Axl are nuts, especially to some ass who said fair play to him for adaptin Axl's style. Scott's been doin his style for years, ahh remember STP? And it's way better then Axl's, it has a similar swagger and cheekiness but less of the bullshit ego. The band seemed to enjoy it as well as Dave and Duff smiled throughout. There interaction with the crowd produced a magic buzz, an accolade lacking in most bands. I was a bit disappointed as most of the crowd seemed to only come for Slash but what the hell, he is after all a rock god. Superhuman, Fall to pieces, Set Me free, Sex Type Thing and of course Slither purely rocked. Love Velvet Revolvers sound, it's pure rock that has not been heard in years. Wish they could have played Snakepit's 'Be The Ball'. Finally, a concert that will not be topped.

Thank You Velvet Revolver.

Thanks to Tasha: Loved the fucking show the best I've seen yet. Fucking love Slash could he rock anymore and how hot is he!!!! Duff you fucking rock loved ya all along. Can you buy Slash's hat how much or can ya get like a copy or somethin I have to have. I collect hats and that's the best ever. Scott you perform so well you fuckin rock, Scott and Matt rock on. Fuck the smoking ban I hate the bastard. Rock on ye motherfuckers rock on. Velvet Revolver are the greatest!!

Thanks to Lorraine: Wow, that's all I can say! The guys are definatly back with a vengance. It was truly the most amazing concert I have ever seen, the atmosphere was electric, the vibes, so strong you could taste the sulpher in the air! And the band - they just blew me away !

I saw GnR play here back in '92 and I thought it was great but this, now.... there isn't any words to describe how we felt. At the risk of sounding like the third member of Tenacious D, wow wow wow wow! That fuckin' rocked!!!!! Velvet Revolver, may they rock forever!

Thanks to Experienced Rocker: Mighty! First concert I had been at for years. The atmosphere was simply electric. From the first song to the last both my wife and myself were enthralled. This is definitly the best band in the universe at present. Slash was right in picking Scott as a singer, what a frontman, nobody else in rock comes close. The crowd were in unison of the band and as far as band / crowd interaction goes, it will take some beating. The show was one slick act and it will live with me forever. Best Songs IMO 'Sucker Train Blues', 'Big Machine', 'Fall To Pieces' and for the grand finale, 'Slither'. But hey they were all good. We got such a buzz from the show that we went to Newcastle to see them again, wow. What a night, even the 'Datsuns' were super. As far as kick ass rock music goes 10/10. Respect!!

Thanks to Sarah: Oh my God!!! Unbelievably unforgettably excellent. For a G'n'R fan was a dream come true!!! Never got to see G'n'R play so when Velvet Revolver played G'n'R tracks it blew me away!! Velvet Revolver are incredible live they have the old G'n'R dangerous energy (especialy for guys in their 40's) Scott was fantastic which suprised me. Slash every bit the legend. Matt amazing. Duff fucking hot!!!!! Wish I could rewind to this day last week and see them again!!!!

Thanks to Brian: Brilliant fucking show the guys rocked. Sucker Train Blues was a superb opening. The crowd went fucking crazy. Scott is a fantastic frontman, Duff and Matt had a massive sound you could feel it in your chest brilliant! I didn't realise Dave was such a good guitarist he played a fantastic duel solo with Slash. I just want to ask if there is anyone in Ireland who is as good as Scott at singing, we want you for our band. If you are interested e-mail us at troubadourss@yahoo.ie

Thanks to Caksman: Excellent, we want more - Velvet Revolver for Oxegen 2005. They've still got it. Did Slash get fined for smoking on stage????

Thanks to Donkey: Fucking amazing keep on rock and fucking rollin from the lads in B'doran bring them back. Duff's a fucking legend "Axl where you now" Bring back Izzy CFC.

Thanks to Gary: This was my first concert and I can only say.....holy hell! What a show! Velvet Revolver are amazing. Before the show they were one of my favourite bands but now they are top of my list. Scott Weiland is an amazing frontman. So much energy and passion! The Ireland flag was neat and what can I say about Slash and Duff? They are true rock gods! There wasn't an off key all nite. All the band have such stage presence although it took Dave a while to come out of himself. The stage set was brilliant and the setlist was amazing. The entire place went crazy when the start of Sucker Train Blues started and Scott swaggered out. Scott is a far better singer and frontman than Axl Rose ever was! The songs rocked-especially Sucker Train Blues (amazing intro), Big Machine, Superhuman, Headspace, Fall To Pieces and the amazing Slither which was the finale. Other highlights were the G'N'R tracks and the STP tracks though I wasn't too familiar with those. Slash's smoking ban comments and sparking up a fag was great and Duff's comments on his Irish relations! Matt is an amazing drummer too. Velvet Revolver have proven themselves as one of the best bands in the world and I'm sure that everyone who was at that concert would agree. Hope to see them at Oxygen this summer!

Thanks to Seán: Best gig ever.

Was in the front row. It's a dream come true for me!! I even got Slash's cigarette when he dropped it!!

Thanks to axel90: What a show.... nobody seems to have mentioned how at one stage Slash played the intro for Welcome To The Jungle and then switched to Mr. Brownstone. Ok since it must have been their best performance yet if any1 has a boot leg copy of the concert lying around can you please email me @ axelninety@gmail.com

P.S Slash and Dave playing off against each other after Matt's solo was unbelievable.

Thanks to Thomas Brady: Top Notch Show: Man of the Match - Scott Weiland Great gig...good sound. Weiland is the best front man in the world. I've heard better singers and I've heard better songs but I've never seen anyone come close to what Weiland is doing. He is everywhere onstage. I'd already seen plenty of footage of him but I don't think the majority of the Irish crowd knew what they were in for. Weiland was his wild and wonderful self, even hitting higher notes than in his younger years. There seemed to be alot of GNR fans there coming to see Slash and Co. For example, when Weiland started off Sex Type Thing with his megaphone, "here I come, I come, I come...etc", the venue went into silence. I don't think very many people knew the song. In the end I think Sex Type Thing was the turning point of the gig. A big break down in the middle of the tune gave Weiland a chance to stir the crowd up and the crowd was reacting well. I could hear people outside in the smoking section saying how good the front man was. The band didn't seem to care too much for Irish law either. They smoked freely onstage and teased the smokers in the crowd. It is illegal to smoke in a public building anywhere in Ireland. Plenty of kids there too, displaying just how far Velvet Revolver have reached. The band played everything off the new album except for Spectacle and Loving the Alien to the best of my memory.I really wanted to hear Spectacle. Sorum was also on top form but the GNR boys tend to live up the clich fists aloft, waving the Irish flag etc. Very stereotypical rock. Faultless in their performance but seem to be lacking the artistic factor that Weiland holds. They played the usual cover songs too, with two returns to the stage for more songs finishing off with an almighty rendition of Slither. With a limited selection of songs to choose from, they really put on a great, if extremely up tempo show. All in all, a fantastic show. Mission accomplished as far as Velvet Revolver go. They get little if no radio play in Ireland and I've seen them on television once or twice, but they still managed to fill the Point depot with fans more than willing to spread the word.

Thanks to SlashsHat: Great show. One of the best live acts in the world right now. Guns songs were brillant. Slash was the man. Duff was fucking amazing. But Scott was incredible - so much energy.

There was absolutely no advertising of this gig in this country. TV3 were sponsoring it and I never saw one ad for the gig. Radio only plays chart crap, rap, hiphop etc. It's almost as if Rock N Roll has gone "underground" in this country. Yet they still sold out. Great gig. Sound is never the best in the Point - but it wasn't bad last night.

Slash rules.

Axl - get off your ass and do something! Start fucking writing, recording and get that fucking album out.

Thanks to Steph: Um, I didn't go to the show, but my friend who lives in Ireland went and this is what she said to me (from the sound of it, it was amazing): "The greatest rock band ever!!!

The gig was amazing and Scott wore my flag and looked at me and ooooh I'm still shaking from it!!!! It was sooooooooooo good! I was 2 people away from the front (well kinda one person) and Duff took my flag and Scott took it off him and wore it around his head and I nearly cried a good couple of times! And I went to tall James (who's tall) wouldn't it be great if they did Sex Type Thing next minute Scott had the mega phone and starts goin here I come I come I come! I nearly hit the floor!"

Thanks to Stephen B: Velvet Revolver's Dublin show was the best live show I've ever seen, including GnR Slane castle. I met Slash and Matt later that night, Slash was really cool, he is such a niceguy.

Now I'm checking out the rest of the tour dates, must see this show again.

PS. I was always hoping GnR would get back together, after this show Scott just blew me away, GnR was amazing, but this shit is just pure Rock N roll like GnR was when they started. Keep rockin Velvet Revolver.

Thanks to Niall: Woah, that was unreal. I've seen the big guys, Stones, Chili's, U2, Metallica but these guys just kicked so much ass. I thought nothing would ever top seeing the Stones but congratulations to Velvet Revolver, they fucking did it.

Thanks to Gnr fan: I can safely say that Velvet Revolver have proved that they are not in the shadow of Guns N Roses. I never got the chance to see GNR live but the Velvet Revolver gig made that disappointing feeling ease a little. The hour wait for them to come on after the Datsuns (who were very good a might add) was well worth it. They rocked. I just hope to see them sooner rather than later. Maybe at Oxygen!!!!

Thanks to Jeff Wüdz: This was a good gig. The sound needs to be improved. Most of the heavier songs suffered due to this but there was no problem with softer songs such as Fall To Pieces, You Got No Right and Used To Love Her. The Guns N' Roses songs were excellently played. As for the STP songs I am not familiar with their material so it wouldn't be fair to comment. Big Machine, Set Me Free, Slither and Superhuman were the standout rockers from Contraband. In relation to the quality of the individual performances, Slash was his usual brilliant self with his top hat and cigerettes (even though smoking in indoor public places is banned in Ireland), Scott is a very good showman, Matt is a great drummer and Duff was great as well. I don't think people took much notice of Dave to be honest. In closing, if crowd reaction is anything to go by this band has a bright future. If they can sort out their sound problems and release another good album (perhaps one a bit better than Contraband which I think is definitley possible) then they will be firmly on course for world domination.

Thanks to Steve: Excellent gig (tho admittedly James the sound wasn't perfect), glad I made the effort to drive down from Belfast. As Colin said, why the hell couldn't they play Belfast (Odyssey?) as well? They had a few free dates.
Re the sound, I think the Point is a good venue (apart from the pathetic toilet facilities which I avoided using this time) and don't agree with Anthony that everyone sounds bad there, thought the Stones and Fleetwood Mac sounded fine. You're right Colin, there are no signs for the Point, just as well I'd been to it before, in Belfast there are signs all over the place for the Odyssey. As a short arse git myself, have to agree with Dave that it's well nigh impossible to get a decent view standing, we moved several times but ended up watching the screens most of the night.

Set list was as expected, tho would've liked to hear Loving the Alien. Amused by the comments on Slash & co flouting the smokin ban, being a non smoker I think all smokers are idiots anyway and I fully support the ban.
Slash is still one of the greatest rock guitarists ever, Duff, Matt and Dave played great too. Scott is an excellent front man with amazing stage presence, much better than that wanker Axl and with a better voice too. Saw GnR back in 93 at Milton Keynes and it was a pretty shambolic performance, whereas Velvet Revolver the other night were really tight. It annoyed me a bit that the Roses songs got the biggest crowd reaction, as to me they were overrated and Velvet Revolver are a much better and far more rockin band. (That'll piss off all you GnR fans!)
Hope the guys stay together for years and build on their excellent debut album. And maybe they'll even come to Belfast next time!

Thanks to mole2k: The Datsuns started off great but after 3 - 4 songs they started to get boring and near the end of their set list I went off to get a drink.

Once Velvet Revolver took the stage the crowd went mad, I decided rather than be stuck right at the front getting crushing by 8000-9000 guys behind me that I would stay back a bit and hop onto one of the steps to the seating areas to see over everybody's head. I was standing just beside the sound and lighting tech guys and the sound back there was fantastic. You could hear every instrument clearly and the vocals clearly too. Slash's mic was a little quiet and you couldn't really hear him talk much but you could hear the rest fine at the back.

Awesome gig, I'm definately gonna go see them again next time they are playing in Ireland/N.Ireland.

Thanks to Jake: Really enjoyed a proper bad ass rock and roll show for the first time in years. I have seen all the great acts over the years and Velvet Revolver are the most refreshing and truly original band to grace us with their presence in sunny Ireland. I was at the show at Hammersmith last September which outstanding however the band have successfully stepped up to the bigger stage and showed all the nu-metal wankers how to do it. Scotty is an excellent frontman totally lacking in axl-type pretence and I hope they all enjoyed the delights of Dublin! I hope to see them in Belfast next time!

Thanks to Robbie: Slash..what the fuck here in Ireland..ah yea..k. Brillant fucking show..from the start, as Scott put it, "hello Dublin we're Velvet Revolver and we play Rock n Fuckn Roll".

So anyway Slash what can I say he was perfect failing to miss a note, as for Scott he knows exactly what "we" want as he looked down at me in the pit, even supporting our Irish flag at one stage. Duff; was up for it from the start producing a great performance..the only thing that pissed me off was the fact that Slash teased us by playing the start of Nightrain before breaking into Mr. Brownstone but they played their best song You got no Right. Slash came out with his famous hat and double 18 string guitar we remember from Knockin on Heaven's Door. Overall I've been to alot of concerts in my time, but this was the best. Come back again Scott, Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave.

Thanks to Martin: Wow what a gig. Word can't describe how good it was, It rocked. Slash did not care about the smoking ban and said he did not want to brought away in a paddy wagon. Duff and Scot were great, when they had the Irish flag it was awesome. Dave and Matt were great. They all looked like they enjoyed being there. What a gig. Thanks Velvet Revolver.

Thanks to Daniel and Sarah: We queued for hours but it was worth it to get up the front. Thank you Velvet Revolver for a great night. Hope to see them again soon.

Thanks to Lynno: In response to James' review, the sound wasn't too good on the microphone where I was but I thought it was an amazing gig anyway. The crowd rocked, the band played fantastic and their energy was unbelievable. Maybe a lot of people were looking at Slash but that doesn't take from the others performances which were all excellent, Duff ya legend!! It was one of the most liberating experiences I had in a long time. Just upsetting I wasn't backstage lol.

However the Datsuns, I wasn't so keen on, to me it sounded like one continous song with a change in tempo, but hey it was one nice long song!!

Thanks to Ferghal: What a concert, it was a real rock concert with everyone just moshing and head banging to the music. The Datsuns were good, not brilliant. Maybe they just aren't my type of music but I thought they sounded very thrashy, there was about an hour wait for Velvet Revolver but it was well worth it. The crowd went wild as soon as they hit the stage and when such classics as It's So Easy and Used To Love Her were played the crowd went mad yet again.

It was such an amazing experience and if they ever come back to Ireland I'm sure to go again!

Thanks to Whelan: I have to say I was not really impressed with the sound at the show last night. It was just way too loud. My ears are still ringing. That wouldn't have been a bad thing if you could have actually heard what was going on. It was just noisy. Shame because the few songs you could hear were pretty great. Sack the sound man.

Thanks to Decko: James must have been at the wrong gig it seems! Best gig I have ever been to! The band have come on so much even since Glasgow. Sound was fine in the pit where I was and the set was pretty much all they could really do which is fine. The video screens were also a help cos they liked to run about a bit. Venue was sold out and it was great to see, as there was fuck all advertising or promotion of the album. Great night and hope we see them again soon!

Thanks to Mick G: What a way to start the year with one of the best live gigs ever seen from the Point in my view. All the lads were on top form with Slash as usual pure genius. Let's hope the next time they are here it will be headlining the Oxygen festival.

Thanks to Bobby: Hey went to see Velvet Revolver last night in The Point Theatre Dublin, they really threw down they were amazing definitely one of the tops live acts I have ever seen. I was blessed with being there early enough to get in the pit and right up front I was literally 5 ft away from them. The effects were brilliant and their interaction with the crowd was tip-top. The solos god dam!!!! Slash's double guitar was beautifull. All that I have left to say is that I hope they return. Good work ladz keep it coming.
----Slash is God-----

Thanks to The blonde guy: I can honestly say 'the best gig I've ever been to' and I'm still in disbelief from the show. I've got a corner of Slash's towel yay!!They better come back soon, or they could come to Belfast for a change coz Slash is without a doubt such an inspiraton to me and I hope they drop by soon. So erm........bye!!!!

Rock N' Roll ain't noise pollution baby!!!!!

Thanks to Taz: Oh my god!!!! How do I comment on such an amazing fucking live band??

My neck still bloody hurts!! Dave and Scott shocked the hell outta me!!!! Scott had everyone eating out of his hand, it was like he was God! And for those two amazing hours there were five fucking Gods on that stage!! The Point has never been so blessed. Dave can solo so fucking well!!! That dude is not given enough credit. What can I say bout Slash except he was just 'Slash the rock God guitarist that we know and love'. His solos amazing, I just wish the sound was a bit better for him and for Scott too. Duff and Matt were fucking cool and you could feel the drums and Duff's bass in your chest their sound was so cool. A live DVD is imperitive!!! Can't wait to see them again!!!!!

Thanks to The_Godfather: Mullet! Mullet! The best concert of my life. The Datsuns were the perfect band to warm up the crowd. When the opening riff of Sucker Train Blues started the crowd exploded. The pit was the place to be. Perfect set list anyone complaining that it was too loud shouldn't be at the gig in the first place book yourself into an old folks home.

Slash and the band put on a show like never before. Any Velvet Revolver fans who haven't seen them live should book a gig now.

Thanks to Tully: Many great bands have played in the Point and in Ireland for that Matter but Velvet Revolver were by far the best except for maybe Guns N Roses. They played a flawless set and were great on stage. I'm so grateful they came here and I can't wait to see them again.

Thanks to Jenna O'Neill: The best fucking gig I've ever seen!

It was just amazing! First pit 1 person from the front right of the stage, I was in heaven! And when they started playing Sex Type Thing I nearly hit the feckin deck! My shoulders in bits but fuck it! Every song just was deadly! So glad I sold my guitar for the ticket!!! And Scott in that Ireland flag...how cute?!?!?

Thanks to Fish: Read all these reviews. I have to agree with James at the end. Now don't get me wrong. The show was good. I love the album. Slither, You Got No Right, Mr. Brownstone and Sex Type Thing I thought were the outstanding ones. But what was wrong with the sound??? I've heard this type of thing before. The same thing happened at Thin Lizzy in the Ambassador in 2003. The venue was not suited to the sound engineers setup. I really wanted to hear the guitar riffs that define Slash as one of the greatest rockers. And Scott's got a great voice that suits the sound so well. But it sounded like mush. You couldn't hear the lead guitar work or even disguish who was doing what at times. It's a shame.

Not to say I didn't enjoy it. The vibe was electric and they got the stage and the song list just right. Hopefully I'll see them again soon when they fire the guy who okayed the sound check! Rock on!

Thanks to Anthony: The Datsuns started of really well but after 4 songs they had me looking at my watch wondering how quickly they would finish.

I seen Velvet Revolver last year in Cologne and the set list was pretty similar, they gave it all the energy with Slash busting around the stage and all but as usual for the Point the sound was terrible. You can't really blame the engineer, every band sounds bad there, it should be avoided as a venue. Let's hope the organisers of Oxygen get them booled up as they would be excellent. Off to see them in Brisbane next month and hopefully they'll be back in July.

Thanks to Ric: Oh my god, this was an unbelievable show. I was down in the pit, right in front of Slash. No complaints with the setlist, though I wouldn't have minded 'Surrender'.
The highlights of the evening were definetly 'Fall To Pieces' and 'You Got No Right'. I've been a GnR fan for years so I really came to see Slash, Duff and Matt, but Scott is an amazing front man and Dave, that guy is a brilliant guitarist, I had no idea how good he is. Hope the guys come and play again, I'll be there!

Thanks to Cormac: It was an amazing show Velvet Revolver are the greatest rock band. All five of them played great and Slash was so class he is a legend. He has to be the greatest guitarist in the world. I thought Slither was the best song of the night. How can anybody send in a bad review about them they are pure ROCK N ROLL.

Thanks to Spacedude: Show was amazing and the most advanced and detailed piece of visual lighting I have seen. They really really got the best out the Dublin crowd and the the Point was 98% full in my opinion. Brilliant set list and to hear Mr. Brownstone was so fuckin lethal. Slash solos rocked and Scott was class all night. Please come back again!!!

Thanks to Jon Dawson: The sign at the back of the stage said it all... ROCK AND FUCKN' ROLL!!!!

Their entrance was incredible and the show got better and better!!! I loved the Guns N' Roses songs they did !!!!

Thanks to Alex: Well James I was at the concert also last night and I thought Velvet Revolver fuckin rocked. It's true that at times the band were hard to hear but the sheer atmosphere and electricity of the place was enough to cancel that out.....

And you all out there have to admit that when Slash sparked up on stage and pretty much told the Irish government to fuck off it made the night.
The Datsuns were good and all but there just a support band and that's all they'll ever be. All n all the night fuckin rocked.

Thanks to Digs: Rock N' F**kin' Roll!!!!!
This was easily the best gig I've ever been to. The sound was perfect! Vocals and solo's were perfect, I heard some earlier live shows from the States were I thought the sound was shite! But last night it was great. I suppose the stand out song for me was Fall to Pieces, it had a huge sound, f**kin blew me away!

Slash made a comment on the smokin ban. He said something like 'if anyone one was gonna raise hell bout this, I thought it would've been the f**kin irish!' He then sparked up and the crowd errupted. True rock n' roll!! He also got a huge cheer when he came back on stage after a short break and put on his famous hat. I'm a huge Slash fan and it seemed to me that there was a full house of us because he got a huge cheer for every solo.

Scott grabbed a tri-colour from a fan in the front row and wrapped it round himself getting a huge cheer from the crowd. Duff went on to say he'd got relatives from Cork by the name of O'Sullivan I think, not 100% on that.

I knew Dave could play but when I saw him solo on Set Me Free I was shocked! He was f**kin amazing, zipping up and down the fretboard like a mad-man!

Matt is the best drummer in the world without a doubt! His drumming was awesome, he kicked off the intro to You Could Be Mine and quickly changed to the intro to 'Mr Brownstone', amazing! He didn't say much but threw plenty of drum sticks into the crowd.

All in all I'm tempted to get the next flight to Glasgow and see them again. They were that good! I don't think any other band around can touch them! F**kin awesome concert. For rock fans who didn't bother to go and see last nights gig...... shame on you!!! Don't miss the next one!!

Thanks to Sarah: Oh my God!! How f**kn cool Slash what can I say a legend. Scott pulled off Axl's swagger perfectly. Matt rocked on drums. Duff was sooo sexxy!!! And a f**kn brilliant bassist. Dave rocked!!

Thanks to Kevin: Awesome gig. Rock n Fuckin Roll.
If I had any criticisms it'd be that Illegal I went on too long. There was a lot of messin and stuff at the end. I love solos but it was a bit too much. Scott Weiland is the perfect frontman for this band. They all really seem to gel. Can't wait for the second album!

Thanks to Mark: Great gig last night, I knew nothing about Stone Temple Pilots, didn't really like Scott but after seeing him live last night I think he is one of the best front men I have ever seen, he has so much energy and made the band look like a band should (enjoying it and made the crowd enjoy it). Would love to see them again. And by the way the guy pissing and moaning, Westlife are playing there during the summer why don't you go there and leave rock gigs to rock fans.

Thanks to Danny: I've been to alot of gigs but last night was the best ever. I don't think I'll be able to go to any other 1 because they fuking kicked so much ass on stage. Best fuckin gig ever my neck and body is killing me it was that rough (even better).

Thanks to Flumphert: Absolutely outstanding show. Great seeing the boys back on stage again in Ireland for the first time in over 12 years!!! Set list was mixed with everything from Velvet Revolver, STP & GN'R. And the version of Used To Love Her seriously kicked ass. Sounds better with Weiland on vocals! They truly destroyed Dublin and hopefully we'll see them back here sometime soon.

Thanks to Colin-cbr: After listening to the cd from last summer, it was great to actually see the band live, doing their thing to an appreciative audience. It was let down somewhat by not the clearest pa sound that I've heard in a long time, didn't even need my ear plugs in this time! Q's for the toilets were a bit of a novelty too, why not hire in port-a-cabin size facilities outside to take some of the pressure off ( no pun intended ). Dublin City Council/Tourist Board really need to get their collective act's together with better signage/directions for getting there for out of towners like me who had to drive down from Belfast.

Why didn't the management choose to put a show on in Belfast as well, it's not like there's a shortage of venues to play at these days and they don't get blown up the way that they used too. There were more bands playing in Belfast in the 80's when bombs were still going off than there is now. Why is that band managers?

Well, that's my gripe over, but a big thank you to Velvet Revolver anyway for a great nights entertainment. Don't leave it too long for a return visit.

Thanks to Margaret: They were fuckin' awesome. Scott had so much energy. The sound was crap though.

Thanks to Dave: A group of seven of us got up to about half way to the stage, but the view wasn't the best, particularly if you were less than 6 feet tall. But to compensate for this and the first time I ever saw it in the Point Depot (Dublin's largest indoor venue), they erected two huge screens on either side of the stage, so that gave everybody a birds eye view of what was happening.

So they played nearly all of Contraband, It's So Easy, Brownstone, Crackerman and Sex Type Thing. One of the highlights was when Slash, towards the end of the gig, came out onstage on his own with a Les Paul and sat on the monitor at centre stage. He started playing some class 'acoustic' style guitar which had hints of Pink Floyds 'Mother' - similar to what they used to play before Paradise City in Gn'R. It was amazing. The audience for the first time all evening became more or less hushed. Then he started in to Used to Love Her. Brilliant.

The gig as a whole was possibly one of the best I've been to. It was like watching Gn'R in '87 - 110% energy from all five band members. Scott was great, Duff was too. After a short break, Matt came out and started into the drum intro of You Could Be Mine and the crowd went wild. He then cut straight into Mr Brownstone. Fantastic.

Then Slash and Dave had a 'guitar duel' during Set me Free I think it was. Dave is such a better player than I had thought. Then of course Slash sported the top hat towards the end, and smoked throughout, commenting on Ireland's smoking ban! Great stuff.

The place was sold out and you could see on the faces that they were really enjoying playing for us. I Just hope they get to come back soon. They would easily have been able to play two nights here.

Thanks to Tim Holden: It was unreal a true rock show from start to end. Only it went too fast it was my first gig but it was brilliant the whole place was moving. Scott was great! The band look great! Slash solos as alway brilliant. I give it 10 out of 10. Velvet Revolver will be around for a long time. Hope they play in Ireland soon again maybe in Cork.

Thanks to Wayne Madden: Fantastic show, bloody brilliant. Played three Guns N' Roses numbers (It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone and Used to Love Her) as well as virtually everything from their Contraband album. There was also time for a short bass and drum solo, as well as Slash's guitar solo. During the intro to Mr Brownstone Matt Sorum attempted to play You Could Be Mine and the crowd went wild, but alas it wasn't to be and Mr Brownstone proceeded Slither to finish a fantastic night. There was some bad news however towards the start of the evening cause the crowd was just too packed on the ground floor. Several of us had trouble breathing and were kicked and punched around. That is no reflection on the bands, they were both great, but it just has to be mentioned that the crowd on the ground floor was too full and we're lucky no one suffered a serious injury.

Thanks to Niamh: Just to say the show was really rockin and they all were just amazing!! I had a brilliant view and was close enough to the stage to see they still have it! They all still looked super sexy especially my gorgeous Slash!! The music was just out of this world and the atmosphere was electric!! It was good to see old friends on stage again!! When they played Mr. Brownstone the whole crowd went mental it was a night I'll have in my head for ever like GnR in Slane Ireland 1992. Long may they rock on!!

Thanks to Ciaran: The show was amazing...the GN'R songs were very popular and really got the crowd going! Big Machine seemed to go down really well. Scott wore the Irish flag and rambled on about freedom during Sex Type Thing! Duff spoke of his ancestors in Ireland. Slash said 'You've got a really big family'!..Duff replied 'ye, its really big'! The Point was absolutely packed, it holds 9000 if I'm correct?!<

Slash mentioned it was a pleasure to be in Dublin. He ignored the smoking ban, he mentioned something like 'You guys don't seem to mind me breaking the law here!' I noticed he even has a cigarette holder on his guitar! Or maybe its just a gap in the neck!!

I don't know if its just me, but Scott and Slash sounded drunk! Their performance was not not affected however!

Dave was very impressive on the extended outro to Set Me Free..he can really rip it up!

They slowed down the pace for Used To Love Her and You Got No Right, which was played brilliantly on Slash's double-neck guitar!

As mentioned by sum1 else...Matt played You Could Be Mine before launching into Mr. Brownstone!

I think the crowd really got into it myself and I think the band were impressed.

Thanks to James: Reading all the reviews, it seems people are fooling themselves. It was very very disappointing.. everyone was leaving saying, oh that was great, but the truth is, it wasn't... haha. If you want proof, in one of the reviews a someone said something about how clear loving the alien was...they didn't play Loving the Alien!!!

The three guys I was with said it was great, but then it turned out it was only great cos "it was Slash". I was in the pit and everyone seemed to be squinting at times, trying to make out a what song it was. 75% of people were just looking at Slash, but Scott was 100 times more entertaining.

The only songs that were actually clear where Fall To Pieces, Used To Love Her and You Got No Right. The rest were all jus tone big noise like a bomb going off. The sound engineer clearly needs to be replaced, he had everything way to high for the Point... in a big outdoor venue it probally woulda sounded good, but the point is too small to have the levels so high.

I'm not a moan or anything, but to be honest there's no excuses I can make for the band... The Datsuns were better and the reason is, cos the crowd could actually hear them.

Thanks to Ian: Went to see the band live last night in Dublin and have to say they are one of the best live acts I've seen, right up there with the best of them including Bowie and U2. Was a massive Stone Temple Pilots and Guns and Roses fan but never got to see them live so to be at the gig last night was great. Hopefully it won't be long till a new album comes out and they play in Dublin again.

Thanks to Glen Forbes: History repeated itself for me here. I went to see STP ten years ago when they played in Dublin and I had to go on my own as none of my friends liked them at the time and oddly enough, I found myself at the Velvet Revolver gig on my own last night as all my mates backed out! So I was billy no mates but by the time the gig had finished I was sure to tell everyone what they missed. The support, the Datsuns were hit and miss, they had some great tunes but were unfortunately followed by some donkeys which sounded like someone trying too hard to be the White Stripes and who needs that! Anyway the theatre was full and there was a huge sense of anticipation for Velvet Revolver. And when they came on they exploded in rocknfnroll. They're roared outa the posts with Sucker Train Blues, Weiland revealing a red moptop akin to his STP days and dedicated the second song (which I think was Illegal i song) to 'all the redheaded ladies in the audience' which kinda pissed my girl off as she is a redhead and stupidly turned down a ticket at the last minute. The band was just electric throughout and was refreshing to see just a good old fashioned rock n roll gig where the music was loud, good and people headbanged. Three STP and 3 GNR songs were played, It's So Easy had the entire audience clappin which continued throughout Sex Type Thing with Weiland announcing a revolution. It was also lovely to see the Irish flag drapped around the lead singer and especially the sight of Slash, Duff and Scott breaking the smoking ban! Used to love her was the start of the encore as well as You Got No Right and Mr Brownstone. I saw Red Hot Chili Peppers in Dublin last year and the year before and this gig wiped the floor of them. Velvet Revolver to me are up there at the moment with the best bands in the world. I hope they come back just so my friends get a chance to see what they missed.

Thanks to Jimmy Cleary: Wow!!

I must say that was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it! They kicked off the show as usual with Sucker Train Blues and then played Do it for the Kids, they then proceeded to play pretty much all of Contraband. They also played Sex Type Thing by STP and It's So Easy, Used to Love Her and Mr. Brownstone by GNR. Mr. Brownstone in particular was done excellently, close your eye's and it was GNR back in 1987.

While Scott, Duff, Matt and Dave played brilliantly there was one big reason why we were here, Slash. He played amazingly. My friend got a piece of his towel that he threw out at the end, needless to say, he was very pleased with himself! Before the concert we wondered whether Slash would have a cigarette in his mouth, due to the smoking ban here it isn't exactly legal, but he did all the same, he even made a joke of how polite and easy-going people were about him breaking the law!

If I had fault the show I'd say that the sound wasn't perfect and the drums drowned out the vocals, but considering that the sound was brilliant on the more accoustic songs (You Got No Right, Used to Love Her) you can forgive that.

Thanks to Natasha : Just back from what I can honestly say was one of the best gig's I have ever been too - they were excellent! Just the right mix of Guns, Stone Temple & Velvet Revolver, just excellent!

Thanks to Rob: Fuckin brilliant, Used To Love Her was a treat, 5 rock gods playing on the same stage! Velvet Revolver are the fuckin no. 1 band in the world! Rock on Slash!!!!

Thanks to Gerry: Well I have to say the show was amazing, the sound wasn't always great but the performance was amazing. The crowd sang their hearts out along with all the songs and rocked their socks off. The band diregarded the smoking ban and Slash made some comments on it but I couldn't hear him clearly. Matt played the intro to You Could Be Mine on one of the songs, can't remember which one now though. Overall it was an amazing gig, Scott draped himself in an Irish tri-colour and Duff mentioned his Irish background. It was a proper rock n fucking roll gig!

Thanks to Gareth: Had been to Glasgow and London previously and this show blew both those away. Show was sold out and the crowd was wild. The band seemed to really enjoy it, Duff held up the Irish flag on the drum riser in middle of the show. Duff also said hello to his relations in Cork, to which
Slash said "you have so many relatives". The lads smoked through the set, even though there is a smoking ban in Ireland, think Slash made a comment on it, but very hard to make him out. The stand out tune was You Got No Right, brilliant. Glad there was no Aerosmith cover, went down like lead ballon in London 3 day previously.

If I was in Axl's shoes I would be working out how to beat this, the band is tight, songs are good, show is excellent...and hardest of all ..the lead singer looks part of band, doesn't leave during solos or act like an ass.

Thanks to Pat F: Absolutely f**king awesome!! From the moment they arrived on stage to the time they left, the energy in the building was incredible. As a frontman, Scott has few rivals. Slash's guitar playing was amazing. Matt Sorum, what an excellent drummer. Duff, superb. Dave, brilliant. What can I say, other than the Oxegen festival is on in July in Ireland. Wouldn't it be great if Velvet Revolver returned for that?

Thanks to Slashtobe: Second time for me to see the mighty Velvet Revolver, once in Paris, once in Dublin now and I'm going in London next week! The gig was sweet as a nut, all the band playing up to the Irish in the crowd. They played Mr. Brownstone this time (didn't see it in Paris) and started it out with the drums from 'You Could Be Mine' which was amazing but asides from all the quality performances from the album a quality touch was Slash sparking up a fag and commenting on the anti smoking ban! Rock and fuckin' roll!! The sound was a bit off I thought, couldn't hear the solo's that well when accompanied by the heavy guitar riffs but for the softer songs it was all good. The back and forth solo's were great, didn't realise how good Dave was until last night and Slash's talkbox is still a tasty little touch to his skills. All in all I would definately go see them again. Oh wait I am!! Rock on motherfuckers! See you in London!
