Thanks to Jessica: 1st timer - not a big GNR fan but I really liked STP during my teenage years (90's)

BY FAR HAVE TO ADMIT this band (Velvet Revolver) KICKS ASS

The only ROCK show I've been to in a long time and I've been to about twenty shows since last Xmas (that says enough)

I'm so glad that all of the band has seemed to have found their way in life - this is the right place and the right time for you all.

Can't wait for a new album and I would die to see them in London for live8 - b/c that is going to be the biggest human rights campaign of my generation.

KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD

Thanks to Lea: I gotta say WOW. I'm still really young and I haven't been around long enough to see a good deal of the people I hold as my inspiration for playing guitar. But I got to see Slash, and man, he makes up for this generation's lack of anything musically solid. I was screaming my head off! And then Scott came up into the audience and I touched him!!! His speech was really true, he was talking about how the music industry is raping anything good and it's all just about making money now and that's why we don't see any new good bands out there. I wish he could have heard me screaming HELL YEAH YOU'RE RIGHT! What a great show...except the audience was incredibly weak, how much you wanna bet that the losers standing there quietly watching on and not doing much of anything were only there to see HOOBASTANK??? God, I really hate Hoobastank...

Thanks to Barbara: The best show I've ever been to by any band hands down. Was a little concerned going into it if Scott still "had it" and boy did he ever! Everything about the performance was PERFECT! Every note was in tune, every member of the band was full of energy, the audience was on it's feet non-stop... it was an amazing show, one that I will never forget! Thank you Velvet Revolver for an awesome night!

Thanks to zepzoso1@aol: The boys were rockin the house. I think that's going to be one of the best concerts there all summer. Slash was right on key, and the rest of the band blew me away. It was rocking from one song to the next and Scott looked fantastic, he never kept still throughout the whole show, actually the whole band was all over the place. They got to come back there, or NY area again. AWESOME!!!!!

Thanks to Kevin: I have seen Velvet Revolver every time they were in the tri-state area and it has been basically the same set list everytime. I still love to see them though. I was still an awesome show. I want them to play No More, No More or Surrender but it was pretty cool to see them do You Got No Right.

Thanks to Emily: This was without a doubt the best fuckin concert I've ever been to. Scott is the sexiest creature living, Slash is a god on guitar, Duff kept the beat going, Matt amazing on drums and Dave was spectacuar! That show was a mutha fucking dream come true and I sure as hell will be at their next show. The highlight of the night was hearing Slash mimic his guitar solo it was pure hottness! Whoever is reading this go see their next show, like Scott said "We are Velvet Revolver and we play Mutha Fuckin' Rock N' Roll". Great Show Thanks Guys we love ya!

Thanks to Billy Fitzpatrick: This show was absoloutly amazing, the energy, the music the lights. During "Set Me Free" Dave and Slash were transfering solos back and forth which was great. Another great part was when the band went off and came back on Slash had his tophat on and his doubleneck sig and they played Pink Floyd. My favorite part was when Scott went off stage and went up a flight of stairs, stood on the banister and was talking about the fans and the music then picked up the megaphone and sang some of the song up there. I was astonished I had never seen anything like that before in my whole life

Thanks to fcukyea: Best rock performance I've ever seen without a doubt. All of these guys have been in the biz for 15+ years and it really came out in their professionalism and energy throughout every song. Scott Weiland is one cracked out motherfucker and I love him for it. His numerous rants about drugs and rock and any combination possible were both funny and inspiring. I've never seen a band play with such enthusiasm before wow! STP covers were phenominal. Think about this when you wonder how hard these guys rock, the softest song and only song that had a clean guitar part was Fall To Pieces, every other one was about as hard as you can get. Just a good old fashioned kickass rock show given by some of the greatest performers to ever hit the stage. I'll be back.

Thanks to vicarious existence: The band put on a really great show. This is my 2nd time seeing them (saw them in NYC last year). My only complaint is that the crowd didn't seem that much into it. This seems like a normal thing for Jones Beach though, not just this show. Also, from where I was sitting, it was almost impossible to hear Slash's guitar. But my friends who were sitting further away and closer to the middle said it sounded better from there. I was about 20 feet from the stage and managed to grab one of Duff's picks at the end of the show. Can't wait to see them again!

Thanks to Deb: OMG The show was awesome. I saw STP at Jones Beach almost 5 years ago with Chili Peppers, and STP was by far the better band. Weiland hasn't lost ANYTHING over the years, his voice is so true, and Slash is a guitar GOD!!!!!! We walked away TOTALLY satisfied by a fantastic performance.

Thanks to PAUL: I have to start by saying that I am a huge fan and I waited forever fot this show to happen. That said.. the engineer should be fired! The sound mix was the worst I have ever been exposed to, I was never so dissappointed in the sound quality in my life as I was last night! Slash rocked his ass off though and Scott and Duff were in it for the duration. Sorry, I hope they get a new sound man soon!

Thanks to tsirhc: Having never seen Velvet Revolver before (wanted to though)who knew what to expect, that said, they really blew me away. Scott is an amazing front man, Bowie & Iggy rolled into one, (he MUST have studdied Iggys moves most) Slash, Dave and Duff especially interact w/ the crowd really well, constanly crossing the stage to say hello, Matt's drums were kick ass, he really surprised me most.
The sound was muddy as hell, no way to avoid that at JB though, levels were up and down all night, vocals as well. Lights were great, lots going on there, video also.
Now for the worst part of all - the crowd: One of the quietest, lamest I have ever been part of, very little energy or volume at all, quite a shame, the guys really came to play.

I'd see em again in a second!

Thanks to Lucy: That was one of the best concerts that I have gone to. I was very impressed with the set and and the band interacted with the audience. I was happy with the seats that I had but I was even happier when Scott Weiland walked off stage and walked up through the audience near I was sitting. I thought they were amazing and I hope they come back to play New York again b/c I know for a fact that I will be going to the next show!!!! I love Velvet Revolver.

Thanks to Schecter: As one of the poor unfortunate (too young) rock children who never got to see GnR or STP in their touring days, I'd been waiting for two years (since the day I heard "Set Me Free" on the radio) to get this concert ticket. Without any doubt, the guys made it worth the wait and the price.

FAVORITE MOMENTS OF THE NIGHT:

- Weiland introducing "Dirty Little Thing" by saying "This next song...is about a certain hotel heiress...." (That's hot.) Ever tried to laugh and headbang at the same time? It's harder than it looks...

- The sermon in the crowd on the importance of rock n' roll (I still can't believe someone actually had the gall to tell him to "play some fuckin' music already!" No respect. When Scott Weiland has something to say, you LET THE MAN TALK. You can bet your ass it's important.)

- Watching Slash and Kushner trade solos on the extended ending of "Set Me Free." Dave has some chops, people; he couldn't out-duel the greatest guitarist on the planet, but he was giving him a run for it. Really cool.

LEAST FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE NIGHT:

- Opening act Hoobastank starts to play Journey's "Streetlight People" and then cuts off midway through in favor of that god-awful ballad that gets them laid. WEEEEEEEAK. I don't even like Journey all that much but it's a step up from "The Reason" or whatever it's called. (Side note: I came in with the perception that this was the worst pairing VnR could have asked for...but with the exception of the lack of a real good guitarist, Hoobastank isn't all that bad a band.)

Overall, awesome. Velvet Revolver is magnificent (especially Scott - but I sing so I'm biased), and it's such a relief to see good music coming back around again.

Oh, and before I forget...
ROCK.

Thanks to Banks: Well it is true! There are only a few acts that can really rock anymore and Velvet Revolver is up there with them.

They put on a great show on Saturday night but after seeing them play the Hammerstein Ballroom, the sound is much better inside that outside.

I hope a new album is in the works though because I want more music!!!!!!!!

The song dedicated to a certain hotel heiress was fucking funny as hell! Cocaine!!! Alcohol!!

Slash and Duff look happy as clams and Matt was pounding the drums like no other! The show was a lot of fun and just rocked. Wish You Were Here was a great cover. Scott is leading the crusade to save the Rock and Roll palace and thank god because we need more diversity in music! Thanks for a great show and it was honor to see y'all again.

Keep on rocking us forever!

Thanks to Lauren: The showed kicked ass. The boys came out swinging. Scott sounded amazing from the start and he never let up. Duff, Dave, Slash, and Scott also amazing. Thank you for putting the set list up, I can't remember the order they played but I just remember they played everything I wanted to hear.

They came out and rocked hard for the first three or four songs and it was awesome. I can't describe it with any other word but awesome. I was a fan before but now I have made Velvet Revolver my fav rock band.

Awesome and keep bringing us the news and info, I can't wait for the new album.

Thanks to D: The show was GREAT!!! They totally rocked. Slash played amazing guitar!! My seat was directly in line with him-so it was great to watch him and his solos!! Scott was cool-he sounded great too!! The drums were literally banging!! Everyone in Velvet Revolver just rocked!! Excellent show! Great crowd! Was my first time seeing them live-and they definetly surpassed my expectations!! I wish I could have a cd of the whole concert!! They did great with the STP songs, GNR songs, and their current stuff. They combined 4 decades of music (if you include the Pink Floyd cover) for their one show. We need more bands out there like them!! They totally rocked!! And without a doubt I would go see them!!!!

Thanks to Jessica: Ahhhhhhhhhhh it was the best concert I've ever been to.

These guys kick ass in concert and the best part was when Scott came into the audience by me, ahh it was fucking incredible.

If you haven't seen them in concert, you have not lived!!!

Thanks to Travis: Oh my god, it was the best show I ever saw in my whole life, not to mention I was in the 8th fucking row! It was amazing. I saw them last November in Philadelphia and they were awesome but their energy was 10x as great this time. And in the middle of Sex Type Thing, Scott went off the stage and walked half way to the top of the stadium and made this amazing speech about rock and roll and about the artists and the fans. It was such a treat to be present during that.

Thanks to Raquel: HELL YEAH!!! THIS SHOW ROCKED- except, the one time I spring for ORCHESTRA seats, Scott goes up into the cheap seats! DAMN!!!!

When Matt went into the beats for MR. BROWNSTONE - whoa, I thought my head was going to explode! I never thought I'd get to see/hear that performed live ever again and it was an amazing rendition (see what you're missing AXL??)

Velvet Revolver- you've got a fan for life!!! Come back to NY LOTS MORE!!!!!

Thanks to Tim Dayton: Let me tell you this show was fuckin amazing!! This was my first time seeing Velvet Revolver live in concert and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Scott was perfectly in key on all songs and Slash, I don't even know the words to say, I'll just give you a standing ovation for your awesome solos. It was really a rare occasion as the band sounded just as good live as they do on their cd. I don't know about the previous comments about the sound system but I thought it was perfect, loud and clear. I'm just looking foward to the next time I can see them live. I suggest buying a ticket to one of the shows near you for any true rock fan.

Thanks to DAWK: Three times a charm! It would have been hard for someone to convince me that Velvet Revolver could have outdone their Roseland show at Jones Beach. Clause Fest was the 2nd time I saw Velvet Revolver and the performance was good but the set was short due to time constraints and the sound was certainly not fantastic at the Meadowlands. But the Jones Beach show was unbelievably amazing. Sitting 10 rows back from the stage and dead center definately made the concert 50 times better, and the sound does not fizzle out into the open when you're that close, so the shitty acoustics of Jones Beach really was not an issue. The guys were loud, raw, energetic, and flawless. The audience interaction was great, especially when Scott went to the upper deck and gave his rock n' roll speech. That will be a truely memorable moment for me and probably anyone who came to the show. Superhuman was probably my favorite song of the night because it isn't my favorite on the album, but it was totally rocking at the beach. Overall I have to say that the whole set was awesome. The covers are always awesome and Wish You Were Here was definately a good change of pace, and Scott sung it perfectly. Being a huge GNR fan, it's always good to see Slash, Duff, and Matt jamming out Brownstone and It's so Easy. I really love the spin that Slash puts on the STP covers. The songs take a slightly different edge because of his style and they still sound awesome. I could go on and on about this show, but the bottom is that it was by far the best concert experience of my life and I can't wait until they come around to NY again so I can see them for a 4th time. Thanks a lot for a great show!

Thanks to anonymous: This concert was so awesome! I got to see my favorite band live for the first time, and I was like 20 feet from the stage! Slash was like right in front of me the whole time and did a kick ass job on the guitar! Scott sounded awesome and is a great performer, I thought it was awesome when he got off the stage and got in the crowd and started to sing! The lighting was awesome too. Velvet Revolver did an EXCELLENT job and I would definetly go back and see them again!..I LOVE THEM THEY ROCK!

Thanks to wunderlad: Things for a great show:
Killer band = check
Great lights = check
Good crowd = check
Amazing video/visuals = check
Good sound = sorry, didn't happen

I wanted to hang the sound guys for Velvet Revolver at Jones Beach. Scott is a FANTASTIC front and the band is firing on all pistons. But really too bad the sound was muddy as fuck, the drums and bass sounded so flat, Slash's guitar cut through everything with that killer tone, I couldn't hardly any second guitar and you could hear drastic level changes during songs even late into the set. If you didn't know the album, you would be lost in noise with no melody to hang your hat on.

It was still an amazing show, just by the will to power of the band with no thanks to audio techs.

Thanks to Liv: Fucking amazing show, man. Insanely better than the first time I saw them and it was nice to have a full setlist. They played everything I wanted to hear. It was all just a blast. And NO RAIN. HA! Thank God for terrible weather forecasters. Loved Scott's speech up in the crowd, too. Man, those people were lucky. All the guys rocked, every song rocked. Just wow.

Thanks to DoubleTalkingJive: OMG, the show was awesome!! It rocked. For me I have never seen Velvet Revolver live and I am so glad that I went, because not that I didn't have respect for them before but seeing them live has giving me the utmost respect for this incredible band!! I was blown away completely!! Wow, can't wait until they come back!! Yes, we never made it to the flagpole either but the tailgating was great. Nothing like drinking beers, blasting Velvet Revolver or GNR and hanging out with many people!! I had a great time.

Thanks to mikegiuliana: Amazing show, Scott was on top of his game, he blew away Long island. His amazing stage presence to his great rant after he ran up into the nose bleed seats during Set Me Free as the band rocked along.. Wish You Were Here was amazing, Scott and Slash seem so tight.

The show was like a bolt of lighting, pure energy dirty rock and roll. This is really the best band and live show around. Slash kicked ass on each solo, Scott's vocals were great, Duff looked amazing great as usual, Dave's playing unreal. Matt was all smilies and beat the drums like cannons going off. Scott can definitely sing the GN'R tunes (Mr Brownstone n It's So Easy). They have as much energy as if they were pulled back from 1991, Slash with his 5 guitars, two double neck, one red like the ycbm days, and his vintage Les Paul..

Amazing amazing amazing, I would see them each time they come around and spend any time of money. Great parking lot parties too, cars blasting Contraband.

10,000 fans strong...

Thanks to Velvet Revolvertrooper: Best concert I have ever been to. Even better than the first time I saw them. They blew me away...even more than I expected (and I expected alot).

Thanks to Jay: My girlfriend and I went in on the 5 Star package. When they went on sale I must have been the 1st one to snag them so we had literally the best seats in the whole place, front row center.

At the soundcheck Matt was absent so Hoobastank's drummer sat in. Of course Scott was not there either. They did the "soundcheck" for about 1/2 an hour. Slash commented that they would let the organizers send stuff back to get signed (something they almost never do). We got Duff and Slash's autographs on our Velvet Revolver programs. On top of that at the end of the night I got one of Matt's sticks and it has the battle scars on it from some part of the night.

Overall show was great, venue was great and the sound was much better than Bridgeport (amazing since most bands hate JB acoustics). The bad part of the setup was that they don't sell booze at Jones Beach so if you didn't get enough during the pre-party then you were SOL.

Thanks to STEAK (Paul): Well.

I've seen Velvet Revolver three times last year (Roseland, Rolling Rock Town Fair and Continental Airlines Arena-Claus Fest) and they NEVER FAIL TO DELIVER!!!

With that said. I bought the 5-Star VIP package so I went early for that deal. They had some beer/wine and some little snack foods and some pasta for us. Later on they had a raffle with a bunch of prizes (Mostly T-shirts and hats that you could buy at the merchandise stands, but it's better to win em.) I won a T-Shirt (the one with the woman holding guns with the wings behind her.) So that was cool.

Then we head over to sound check. Lasted for like 20-30 min, just Duff, Dave and Slash were there. They jammed a bit, and Duff came over and shook some of our hands (Mine included!!!). Someone asked Slash if he'd do some signatures and he said "in a minute" and walked off. The 5-Star tour guides and security took us back to the VIP area but some of us left stuff with one of the group leaders to give to the band to sign. (After about 45 min the stuff comes back mostly signed.) They lost my tour magazine so I ended up getting a signed picture of the band!!!

Now to the show..

IT FUCKEN ROCKED.

Basically the same set list as prior shows, 'Wish You Were Here' sounded AMAZING. (Contrary to how it sounds on some of the bootlegs of shows on this tour.) It was a little cold out but when it's supposed to pour all night (outdoor venue) you'll embrace the cold. The highlight (aside from the Floyd cover) was when Scott ran up the side of the venue (basically ¾ the way up a stadium!) and finished 'Sex Type Thing' from high up in the bleachers. Good sound. Another amazing show.

Thanks to NYR94: Great show. High energy set from beginning to end. Scott has a great voice. Slash, Duff, Dave, Matt and Scott all amazing. Acoustic of "Wish You Were Here" highlight of show. Show lasted almost two hours. Played all most all of their own album, Sex type thing, Crackerman, It's so easy and Mr. Brownstone. Don't miss the show if it comes to your city.

Thanks to Jay: WOW! That was fuckin amazing. I just came back last night.

And a buncha other ones I can't name now.

Scott was amazing live his singing was really good. lol Matt Sorum on the other hand sang way to deep and Duff did really good as a backup. They all played fuckin' amazing. Right before Set me Free Slash goes up to the mic and he says:

What? I don't have anything to fuckin' say. This is Set me Fuckin Free.

Later on Slash went to he crowd and started talking to the crowd it was awsome. He talked about Rock N' Roll, and how we keep it alive.

It was so fucking great.

Thanks to Sean: I went to this show!!! It was fu*king amazing! I got the setlist. OMG AMAZING SHOW!!

Thanks to STPHEAD: Well...the only flaw was the great amount of treble that nearly shattered my ear drums, but it was well worth it. The band sounded amazing and pumped out a high energy show that kept you on your feet rockin' hard. Highlights (for me) and (what seemed to be the entire crowd) was the two STP covers, "Crackerman" and "Sex Type Thing". During "Sex Type Thing" Scott came up into the second level seating and from the audience started to do a "Morrison" style rant on Corporations, Record Labels, and how it's up to the fans to decide what to listen to. This rant went on while the rest of the band played a distortedly long "Sex Type Thing" musical interlude. Which finally led Scott to say at the end of his rant "Here I come I come I come"... As he trailed back down to the stage... Amazing.
Another highlight was the magnificent rendition of "Wish You Were Here" which they have seemingly perfected, as well as Slash breaking out the double neck guitar for "You Got No Right".

On a side note, they also have some cool little video footage that they intercut with the band during the performance.

Fantastic Show..

Thanks to Hey now: My 2nd time seeing the band and oh man what a damn show. I saw them back in December for Clausfest. Which was a great performance, it's just that everyone was worn out from the previous band Korn. This time around the setlist was perfect, Slash sounded better then ever with his solos and Scott was on key with vocals. I think the place went nuts when Brownstone came on. Awesome intro by Matt, by playing the drum intro to "You Could Be Mine" then right into Mr. Brownstone. Overall - awesome freaking show, if you ever get a chance to see these guys - make sure to do it!

Thanks to Carmine: The show was great last night. It seem they get better and better everytime I see them and if you guys come back to New York. Be sure I'll be there guys keep on rockin.

Thanks to Jennifer Waldron: I don't think I've ever seen a better Rock & Roll show. Honestly, the music just spoke for itself, the band looked and sounded wonderful. Scott - all of them are just totally brilliantly talented performers.. I'm still there in my head.

And the cover of "Wish You Were Here" I NEARLY DIED.

That's all I gotta say about it, I can now die a happy woman.

Thanks to Chris: Forget about the Fantastic Four the band that I saw last night at Jones Beach Ampitheatre on Long Island should be called the Fantastic Five. This was my fourth Velvet Revolver show and let me just say it was the best show I have been to thus far. These guys brought a pure adrenaline filled burst of rock n'roll that probably blew any nearby fish right out of the water. In my opinion their isn't a better live band out there that can perform like the one I saw last night.

There are so many damn highlights for me to list I don't quite know where to begin, I wish I had filmed the entire thing. You had Scott Weiland go way up to the near top of the ampitheatre during Sex Type Thing and start giving a 5-7 minute speech on rock n'roll. He stated that when he started 13 years ago there were 12 music labels and now they are down to just 3. Also he explained that they just play the instruments and that the fans are the ones that make rock n'roll what it is today pretty cool overall. Duff, Dave, Matt were just outstanding throughout the entire show they were just all doing their thing and having a great time. Now as far as Slash goes hmmmm let's see can anybody say Guitar God?? This guy is one of a kind man I mean if you never seen him play get to a fucking concert. The guy was probably born with a guitar attached to him and would probably be naked without one strapped on him. This Guitar God put on one hell of a jaw dropping performance last night assaulting us with one amazing solo after the other that surely have people talking about it today. In fact the whole show was a highlight so I suggest you get your tickets and go see the best rock band out there today. I have read on this forum that at past shows there was a problem with the mixing or the sound that you couldn't hear Scott or Slash. The sound was absolutely terrific at this show last night I could hear all of them do their parts just fine especially Slash's guitar.

One other thing I want to comment about is the few people who send in reviews from past shows. Scott Weiland isn't doing drugs the guy gives urine before each show and has turned his life around for the better. Then I see Oh Slash is out of it he messed up so many guitar parts he not a good player he is too drunk. You few people are the fucking mosquitoes that Scott Weiland refers to when he addresses the media. I just refer to you ignorant people as fucking assholes that want to see the band fail. Guess what? It's not gonna happen so if you don't have anything positive to say then stay the fuck off this site and go visit your Nickleback or Creed webpage. Like Scott Weiland always says "We Are Velvet Revolver And We Play MuthaFuckinf Rock N'Roll"

Thanks to Ro: Nothing more incredible than to see Slash just take you in with his insane guitar licks and solos. I'm a fan by default, no matter what they do I love. But I felt that the sound at Jones Beach Theatre was subpar. It picked up as soon as they played the goodies. STP and GNR songs were off the wall amazing. The biggest problem I had was with the crowd. It was a rather weak crowd overall compared with other shows. There were definitely a handful of people rocking out as they were suppsosed to. But even the pit was at times was just standing still. I felt at times that some people went to the show as they go bowling or to the movies. I personally was going ballistic during the songs though. It was damn good to see the boys. It's so Easy was the best part of the night, I even ran out of air!!
